    Affinity in Light

For Salone Raritas, the new exhibition space at Salone del Mobile Milano dedicated to collectibles and limited-edition design, Draga & Aurel present a new chapter of their research dedicated to glass and its relationship with light, developed in collaboration with the historic Murano glassworks Salviati.

In this journey, glass moves beyond its material function to become a field of artistic experimentation, where light plays an active role in shaping perception and the transformation of the material itself.

As with resin, glass is explored through an open process developed in close dialogue with master glassmakers and furnace techniques, turning production into an integral part of the project. The result is not a fixed form, but a living material that carries traces of fire, gesture, and transformation.

At Galleria Rossana Orlandi, Draga & Aurel reinterpret the concept of the sliding door through an installation that explores layering as both a visual and conceptual device in art and design.

The project centers on a diptych by Aurel K. Basedow, an abstract work of strong expressive impact. In front of it, lucite panels painted with epoxy resin by Draga Obradovic move along a system of parallel tracks. Their shifting, non-contact overlap continuously modulates the perceived depth, rhythm, and visual intensity of the composition.

A dynamic exchange of roles is thus set in motion. The painting is no longer a self-contained image, but part of a spatial structure; the design system is no longer merely functional but becomes an active agent of visual transformation. The power of colour and painterly gesture expands into the surrounding space, radiating onto the walls and shaping an immersive environment.

The artwork remains intact, yet each movement generates a new configuration. Stratification becomes language: a process that multiplies interpretations and affirms a seamless continuity between artistic practice and design.

Tratto lamp, designed by Draga & Aurel for Gallotti & Radice, is among the winners of the Archiproducts Design Awards 2025.

The Archiproducts Design Awards celebrate excellence in design, highlighting the dialogue between designers and brands.

Tratto explores the relationship between light, glass, and geometry. The cylindrical form is reduced to a suspended graphic sign, where clarity of structure meets a subtle expressive quality. The glass gently diffuses color, creating a balanced interplay between material and light. A brass element with integrated LEDs defines the vertical axis and enhances reflections. Versatile in its presence, Tratto introduces a precise and luminous gesture into the space.

    Downtown Design Dubai 2025

Draga & Aurel make their debut at Downtown Design in Dubai together with COLLECTIONAL, the design platform that represents them in the GCC, with a site-specific installation that captures the essence of their practice: a constant dialogue between the artistic experimentation on materials and the reinterpretation of past aesthetics, always with an eye toward the future.

The project brings to the design week a new evolution of the artists’ two emblematic series: Transparency Matters, which explores the alchemy between resin and concrete through plays of light and depth; and Heritage, which reinterprets vintage furniture from the 1950s to the 1980s with a contemporary language and meticulous handcraftsmanship.

Among the new works staging in Dubai are Soffio, a collection of floor and suspension lamps paying tribute to the art of Murano glassblowing; Rescue Me, a bold evolution of the upcycling concept, where remnants of past creations are reimagined through resin; the sculptural tables Cava and Lava, together with the console Stendhal, where weight and lightness coexist in a refined balance. The installation is completed by a painting by Aurel K. Basedow, who’s gestural and layered approach reflects the same tension between control and spontaneity that animates their design work.

    Matters of Memories

The allure of matter, the beauty of memory, and a curious gaze toward the future. In the heart of the elegant Knokke, Rik and Silvie Ruebens, internationally renowned cultural scouts and design tastemakers, inaugurate Ex Terra, a new hybrid space by RR Interieur for art, design and encounter, with Matters of Memories, a solo exhibition by Draga & Aurel that blends collectible design, art, and transformative memory.

Open to the public from September 25, 2025, the exhibition unfolds as a journey through time and an intimate insight into the creative universe of Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow. Each piece reflects on memory as a living material—what we preserve, what we leave behind, and how what has been discarded can be transformed.

Matter becomes a field of experimentation. Epoxy resin reworks objects from the past, generating new scenarios of light and colour, while concrete introduces a more tactile and introspective dimension. Alongside these materials, the exhibition presents, for the first time, blown glass crafted in Murano, bringing a new layer of craftsmanship and tradition into the work.

The show features new pieces from the Rescue Me series, a development of the upcycling Heritage collection, where vintage furniture is reimagined. These are presented alongside recent explorations from Transparency Matters and a selection of iconic works revisited through new finishes, coatings, and colours.

The exhibition also includes a body of paintings by Aurel K. Basedow, where layering, photographic elements, and material interventions converge. The works engage in a direct dialogue with the space and the viewer, with a strong presence of red shaping their visual intensity.

Transparency, layering, chromatic transformation: these are the Pensieri Riflessi (Reflected Thoughts) of Draga & Aurel, the immersive installation that the creative duo is unveiling at the Galleria Rossana Orlandi for this year’s edition of Milan Design Week. The space becomes theatrical, a stage for intersecting stories and visual monologues that create an expressive symphony of interaction and reflection—between material, transparency, and color. The curtain rises on RESCUE ME, a new artistic upcycling project. The spotlight shifts to CADRE, a lucite sideboard, while the scene is lit up by the PHEBE lamps—satellites of light and color. Each piece pulses with energy, transporting viewers into a dreamlike dimension where wonder and contemplation intertwine. The paintings by **Aurel K. Basedow** represent the pictorial extension of a path that is both distinct and deeply interconnected. Rhythm and technique merge with instinct; multiple layers of resin create liquid depth, enclosing fabric textures, photographs, and painterly signs. With each pour, the original image is rewritten—until it becomes a deep, shimmering abyss where the gaze can wander and lose itself. “For us, painting and design are two worlds inextricably linked. They mirror each other in a constant play of echoes, reflections, and stories.” Pensieri Riflessi invites visitors to dive into color and light, to lose themselves in transparency and detail, and to discover the hidden language of layered composition.

Flare, the capsule collection of ten unique coffee tables, designed by Draga & Aurel for Todd Merrill Studio (NY), is among the German Design Awards 2025 winners. The German Design Awards are the premium prize of the German Design Council, which was founded in 1953. With its global scope and international appeal, it is one of the most prestigious awards and one of the world’s leading competence centers for communication and knowledge in the design field. Flare epitomizes Draga & Aurel’s deep dive into the interplay of colors and light refraction, achieved with rigorous study of materials and research into new artisanal techniques. Every coffee table is a one-of-a-kind collectible design piece crafted entirely from Lucite, a material that undergoes a painstaking process with skilled artisans. This process involves juxtaposing different sheets of acrylic resin with different depths and colors, merged and shaped a few times to obtain shades and gradients.

Parka modular sofa, designed by Draga & Aurel for Poltrona Frau, is among the Archiproducts Awards 2024 winners. The Archiproducts Design Awards celebrate the world’s design excellence, to witness the synergy between designers and brands. Parka pays homage to a classic ‘90s streetwear clothing item, typical of the US grunge culture and now a symbol of an entire generation. Its soft profile and generous volumes, upholstered all the way to the floor, promise comfort and relaxation. The unusually oval-shaped backrest, which gradually and seamlessly morphs into an armrest and then a seat, creates a concave or convex shape, bold and inviting at the same time, effortlessly adapting to different styles with nonchalance. Design Miami 2024

For the third time, in partnership with Todd Merrill Studio, Draga & Aurel are presenting at Design Miami the results of another year of experimentation with materials. Their new proposal, consisting of a family of lamps, a dining table, and a sideboard, complements and expands the Flare collection, which premiered last year, also in Miami. Once again, their material of choice is lucite, an acrylic resin that Draga & Aurel mold, assemble, gloss, and sculpt by hand, with the support of a team of Italian craft masters from Lake Como. Draga & Aurel create furniture in which the line between art and design becomes increasingly thin: functional objects that don’t just enrich space with their aesthetic but also explore the complex relationship between light, color, and form, encouraging the observer to interact from various perspectives, just as they would when faced with a work of art. The Ribbon lamps, the Flare table, and the Flare sideboard are produced exclusively for Todd Merrill Studio (80 Lafayette Street, NYC), and are available for purchase worldwide.

For Rossana Orlandi Gallery, Draga & Aurel together with Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva present Apartment of Wonder, a synergy of visions and artistic sensibilities has brought the rooms of an eclectic apartment to life, where a fusion of art and design is expressed through transparency, color, and contrasting shapes, materials, and styles. “We met Giuliano on the path to expression converted into transparency and color” Draga Obradovic. The new pieces in the Transparency Matters collection feature monumental sizes and an even more complex artisanal know-how and design study. ZEN table collection is characterized by dizzying contours and interconnecting shapes, whose surfaces have a “frosted” effect; GLINT cabinet has an impalpable charm, with opaline nuances with fluorescent highlights in contrast with the cool and glossy metallic structure; the LEWIT bed sculpture, designed in collaboration with Giuliano Andrea dell’Uva, has been developed into a full collection for bedroom with desk and bench. The apartment also includes a gallery, designed to house a reserved selection of paintings by Aurel K. Basedow. Powerful, energetic, and textured, Aurel’s artworks arise as the sum of physical expression and release of chromatic tension.

    Nomad St. Moritz 2024

Draga & Aurel are participating in NOMAD St. Moritz with a carefully curated selection of design pieces sourced from both the Transparency Matters and Heritage collections. This selection has been meticulously chosen to be featured in the exhibition NOTITLE 02, curated by Rossana Orlandi. The exhibition showcase the new LEWIT bed, designed in collaboration with Giuliano Dell’Uva: a bed sculpture that recalls the aesthetic of the artistic avant-garde of the 1960s and 70s. Its basic geometric shapes contrast with bare materials, bright vivid colors, and neon accent lights. In contrast, the cashmere and wool plaid — created as a limited edition for the project by Somma1867 — features a free, abstract, and “wild” composition by Aurel K. Basedow. The composition also includes RAY pendant lights, as simple and minimal in shape as they are complex to create, able to form ever-new visual compositions depending on the point of view from which they are observed. Also featured are the BAIA console and coffee tables, expressing a play with materials and geometric shapes to create a pure and primordial composition. Paying homage to the location and the roots of the design studio, some pieces from the Heritage Collection complete the set-up, such as the FURRY chairs in bamboo and the ERNST wall unit dating back to the 1970s, restored by Draga & Aurel this year. These pieces are adorned with a combination of colors and finished with epoxy resin.

    Flare capsule collection

Draga & Aurel introduce their latest capsule collection, in collaboration with Todd Merrill Studio, premiering at Salon Art + Design New York 2023. This unique collection delves into the dynamic interplay of color and light refraction, featuring seven variations of coffee tables and a totem sculpture crafted entirely from Lucite. FLARE emerges from a profound exploration of materials, highlighting their capacity to come to life through the interplay of color and light. Renowned globally for their mastery in using epoxy resin, Draga & Aurel push artistic boundaries by choosing Lucite, an acrylic material processed by hand with an innovative technique collaborating with skilled artisans on Lake Como, Italy. Inspired by the three-dimensional color study of South Korean artist Jiyong Lee and the intricate compositional technique of Vasa Mihich in acrylic sculptures, Draga & Aurel focus on the concept of refraction, exploring the breakdown and composition of matter. Colored Lucite sheets in diverse shapes and thicknesses are meticulously combined to achieve captivating hues, then cut and glued to create a mesmerizing interplay of light—an epiphany for the observer. The result is versatile objects that transform when viewed from different angles, encapsulating the essence of a flare and embodying intuition, revelation, and discovery. *(link: https://toddmerrillstudio.com/designer/draga-and-aurel/ text: Todd Merrill Studio) is the exclusive distributor of the line.*

    Lake Como Design Festival 2023

The prestigious Rossana Orlandi Gallery debuted at the Lake Como Design Festival, presenting the art-design project LEWIT, a monumental bed sculpture arising from a creative symbiosis between Draga & Aurel and eclectic architect Giuliano dell’Uva. The basic geometric shapes, contrast with bare materials, bright, vivid colors, and neon accent lights recall works by the great minimalists, from Donald Judd and Dan Flavin to the clever conceptual architectural installations of Sol LeWitt, to whose name the bed pays tribute. In contrast, the cashmere and wool plaid — created as a limited edition for the project by Somma1867 — features a free, abstract, and “wild” composition by Aurel K. Basedow. His design contains clear references to American expressionism and action painting, in which gesture becomes form and form comes to life through color. In keeping with the festival’s theme “Naturalis Historia”, Draga & Aurel’s work expressed an encounter between nature, as marvelous as it is powerful, and humankind.

    Desacralized by Galerie Philia

Draga & Aurel are among more than 20 international designers called upon by Galerie Philia to interpret the concept of desacralization as part of the DESACRALIZED exhibition, taking place in the deconsecrated 11th-century San Vittore e 40 Martiri Church. The common thread in the exhibition is the relationship between the sacred and profane, explored by the designers in completely white projects. The RAVINE coffee table by Draga & Aurel is inspired by the monumental nature of large cathedrals, with their dizzyingly sheer walls. This sharply geometric sculptural piece has been made entirely by hand with alternating layers of transparent resin and slabs of gray and pastel variants. The resin is skillfully manipulated for a deep, transparent effect and creates ever-changing refractions of light and color depending on one’s point of observation. “We wanted to capture the aura— the invisible, subtle, and ethereal energy we emanate, which accompanies us and varies depending on our vitality”- Draga & Aurel.

    Space Couture for Nilufar

For the second consecutive year, Draga & Aurel present a special project for Nilufar Gallery. Space Couture is a bright and dazzling furniture collection with vivid colors and reflective glossiness on display at the prestigious Nilufar 25 window in the very heart of Milan. Inspiration has once again been drawn from the design and artistic experimentation of the 1970s, a period of rupture, fusion, and much creativity. Draga & Aurel have allowed themselves to be engulfed by the “optical tricks” of Op art, Jeff Koons’ controversial play on blowup works, and inflatable objects. The result is a capsule of furniture that almost transcends time and a fun atmosphere. Draga & Aurel have collaborated with Wall&Deco on a site-specific installation. SABOT armchair Shiny and reflective, coated in laminates and glossy varnish, this fun and ironic armchair is inspired by inflatable 1970s objects, such as the iconic Blow Armchair by De Pas, D'Urbino, and Lomazzi or by Jeff Koons’ controversial inflatable artworks. BON BON lamps Evolving from a coffee table in The Candy Box collection that goes by the same name, this wall light recaptures the delicious mood of the piece. Made entirely from thick resin with multicolored filters that take advantage of the material’s transparency, it’s a symbol of levity and playfulness. CLAIRE lamp Just like Victor Vasarely’s 1960s and 70s Op art, this resin column lamp releases kinetic energy through its intense color and distorted geometry. It features a slim silhouette that is simultaneously decisive and delicate, proud and amused. “In this age of darkness, we need to be lighthearted, carefree, and ‘sparkling’.” - Draga & Aurel.
